What Have We Become?
Following the national and local news in regard to the Terri Schiavo case has left me with but one opinion: None of us has any right to weigh in on this matter. Of the more than 10, 000 cases in this nation RIGHT NOW regarding PVS and it is important to know that our Constitution and our judiciary have been built to prevent exactly what is occuring now to occur. We must respect the constitution and the law. In the words of countless democratic congressmen and women, " we can no longer live in a nation of men, we must continue to live in a nation of laws." How true that must ring for our nation to move ahead and solve the crisis that is found in our media, government, and people throughout these United States.
This is not politics, this is the life of one woman and her relationship to her husband and her family. We have no business getting involved, myself included. The only post that will follow this regarding this matter will be the day that she passes, as her husband has willed.
In other news I was able to catch the Rev. Al Sharpton and Bob Novak going at it on Crossfire on CNN yesterday. That was refreshing because neither one of them worries about poll numbers or elections and they are able to be honest with each other and I can once again see the debate between the left and right without the political crap that usually occurs within the system, especially a show like Crossfire.
The point they brought up was this, if the Republican party continues to follow their Right-to-Life policy, what about the death penalty? There are errors in death penalty cases and if we as a people must err on the side of life then why do we not grant stays where needed? This is yet another example of moralty applying only when it pleases the constituency and not the actual values of the Party. This is an oppurtunity for the republicans to draw from the real issues: the rising cost of healthcare, rising violence in our nations citities, the decrease in education quality, issues that face the nation and are not easily encountered and overcome. Instead Congress holds hearings on baseball and Terri Schiavo. Issues that the congress has no business in and issues that are easily manipulated into political scams to rope in an unsuspecting population. Don't become a member of that population, become a part of the active and progressive era that will contoinue to challenge the majority in a quest for justice and true protection of the law. We are not hear to bypass the law, we are here to follow and live by it.
This nation has become an example of what happens when democracy is allowed to take a back seat to political corruption, scandal, and apathy of its people. If you dont think there is a problem with Tom DeLay's ethics, if you dont think Congress overstepped its boundry, if you dont think that this nation is headed in an unconstitutional direction ask yourself, Is this what I voted for? Is this what I asked for? Is the compassionate conservative party really compassioanate and is it truly conservative? Simple Questions to ask yourself when considering where your views have landed your party.
Is that a cry to join the left, good heavens no, it is just a request that you examine the right and ask if the right is truly on the "right" side.
If you managed to get through that then congratulations. Until next time.

I think the only concern regarding stays for the death penalty is the number of them an inmate can have. If we continue to stay executions, then the prison system will hemorrage to the breaking point. I think we need to take a better look at who is in jail, who really needs to be in jail and who needs to be in jail for what amount of time.
