Monday

I just did a really nice and kinda long post, so im not in the mood to rewrite it but here it goes:

Today I didnt do much. I spent a good deal of my time at home collecting loose change around the house in search of enough money to fill my little jar.

Yes, a jar, yes I said hours.

I havent had a real day off from life in a long time so it was nice to kick back and hunt for treaure.

The one highlight of my day was watching a two-hour debate between Viktor Yanukovich and Viktor Yushchenko. They are candidates for President in the Ukraine. I know it sounds dorky but this is a critical race that has drawn a lot of attention in the media and brings back fond memories of the Cold War era of poisoning and real fights for democracy.

The debate was really good: Yanukovich spoke Russian for the most part (He is supported primarliy by the South and East portions of Ukraine that are Russian speaking and Pro-Russia) while Yushchenko spoke Ukrainian (His support is from the nationalist North and West, these sections also support the West such as the EU and USA). The debate covered a variety of issues but was dominated by discussion of fraud in the run-off and the problems that face the current President (Yanukovich). The debate was won by Yushchenko and I was really impressed with their candor and willingness to go anywhere and drag up any issue. Their personal attacks and comments about their qualifications make the Swifties look like nuns.

I hope the progressive, Pro-West Yuschenko wins the race. He is the projected winner and he, in my humble opinion, is the best chance to bring a former soviet-bloc nation into the Western fold with the hopes of more open trade with Europe and distancing themselves from Russia and the old times in general.

Take notes, there will be a quiz...

Alright thats your history lesson for today, see you all later
