Just got in the door from the UK...great trip, short but great. It was a lovely city and if i can get the pics from the digital camera i may post a few of them. The weekend is shot to heck and back but thats ok, im off to finish off an essay and go to sleep. Even though no one will read this until the next post at least, in ITGS, it gives me a reason to avoid my work.

The group was really awesome, this weekend reminded me of why Im in JSA and why I love politics. Kudos to everyone who went and enjoyed the weekend and went without sleep to love politics.

Other than that there is a little bit of happy news: headed to England this weekend, yes just the weekend, it should be fun and its my first time over there so woo hoo!

U.S. Army School of the Americas (SOA) is a combat training school for Latin American soldiers located at Fort Benning, Georgia. SOA graduates have been responsible for some of the worst human rights atrocities in Latin American history, including:

-Two of the three officers responsible for the assassination of Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero in 1980

-Three of the five officers responsible for the rape and murder of four U.S. churchwomen in 1980

-19 of 26 responsible for the massacre of six Jesuit priests, their housekeeper, and her daughter in 1989

-The man convicted in Guatemalan courts for the assassination of Guatemalan Bishop Juan Jose Gerardi in 1998

-The man arrested for the murder of Colombian Bishop Isaias Duarte in 2002


Originally set up as a counterinsurgency training school in 1946, the SOA has claimed numerous reforms in the way it selects and trains its students over the years, culminating in its name change to the "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation" (WHISC) in 2001. Each of these changes came only because of grassroots and congressional activism, but none has permanently closed the school or allowed for a full accounting of its tragic legacy. The school continues to train soldiers from countries with the worst human rights records in the region.
There are three ways to take action today to close the School of the Americas:

1. Arrange to travel to Fort Benning, Georgia, this coming weekend for the annual vigil to close the SOA. Join Martin Sheen, Susan Sarandon, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, Sr. Helen Prejean of Dead Man Walking fame, Bishop Gabino Zavala, and thousands more people of conscience to stand in solidarity with those affected by the atrocities committed by SOA graduates. This annual vigil serves as a powerful reminder of the work that can be accomplished by those who care enough to take a stand and take action. Go to http://www.soaw.org/ for travel details, and if you can't attend yourself, consider giving financial help to a local college or church group making the trip.

2. Begin planning to take part in the SOA Lobby Days, February 21-22, as faith-based activists from around the country make a personal appeal to congressional representatives to close the school.

3. A bill sits in Congress that would close, investigate, and prevent another cosmetic remake of the SOA. Please contact your congressperson today and urge them to co-sponsor HR 1258.

Another day, another ITGS post

Well its official, Condi Rice is going to be the next Sec State. When I heard the news, and this can be referenced to anyone at the most recent JSA meeting, I screamed in pain. I dont understand, why would the National Security Advisor, the top spook in the United States of Republican America, become the chief diplomat? It makes no sense. The signals that this will send to the international community will reverberate all the way to the 2008 election. Granted, there is usually a cabinet shuffle after the first term, but in a time of war there isnt usually a shake up to match this.

Liberals unite, the time of mourning is officialy over and the bid to take back our nation begins today. If you dont know what you are going to do in 2006 to get a democrat, yes guys a democrat, elected to office then find out now and start working.

Now to be a little non-partisan, Freedom's Answer has put out recent numbers for percentage increases in the 2004 election from 2000. The number 1 state for increasing voter turnout: South Dakota, go figure. But hope is not lost because South Dakota didnt contribute to the mega prize, but the number 2 state, Florida, did. Making my lovely state the projected winner in this battle.

Going Medival

Weekend: Medival camping trip w/ scouts. Not as nerdy as it sounds either. highlights included axe throwing and archery. I won the archery compeition, woo hoo.

Sunday: Pumpkin patch cleanup with the band. joy. rotten, nasty pumpkins and a bobcat.

Monday: school as usual, prepping for fall state and once again got displaced to take my english test, hopefully one day soon.

Veterens day for me meant spending some time with my local vetran, my dad.

Of course the Ex-Navy man has to spend the day on the water, so off we went to fish and cruise the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Fun was had by all, my first item of business was to promptly fall asleep on deck and wake up hours later to the sound of Dad beaching the boat on a sand bar...what happens when pilots skipper a vessel i suppose.

That was my entire day. The waves, the water, the sun, and the bloody massacre of fish as the day went on. Now im off to enjoy the spoils of victory!

Questions...Troubling Questions

Im not into conspiracies.

But for the first time I am interested in a new threory because I believe numbers and I saw this story on FNC (Fox News Channel) of all places. Dick Morris, A conservative pundit for FOX who loves GW and despises the mere mention of the L word believes that this years election was rigged:

What this means? No idea. It could be another conspiracy theory being tossed around by disgruntled libs, but this time it's different. Everyone was startled by the exit polls being so wrong when they have never been wrong before, ever. Is it possible? Yes. There is consistent proof that electronic voting machines are easy to hack into and alter the outcome of an election.

This week I have learned more about the american people than in any history class or through any book. As I approach a general consensus within my being as to what has happened and what I will do to change this country I know this much, My Party and My Ideals will always stand with the people. That being said there is one truth that I will live by as a member of the People's Party, "The Customer Is ALWAYS Right."

Thank you America for showing me who you really are and what you really need do that My Party will no longer be My Party, but YOUR Party. Faith, Family, Fairness...the real issues of the people and the real issues of the Party.

Does this mean I am not a liberal or a lefty? No. What this means is that I am willing to reach out across the table and pull together with the people. Andrew Jackson's party will rise again and the people will cast a ballot not for someone else's party, but for the party they know will look out for their interests. Attention All Democrats:
"Do Not Go Gentle Into That Goodnight...rage, rage against the dying light."

An Open Letter to the Democratic National Committee

Dear DNC;

First of all let me congratulate you on the hard work and massive effort your organization has put forth for John Kerry and John Edwards. Having said that it is time that the Committee and the Party focus its attention on a few important points.

1. Get Over This Election
This is America, polls do not equate to votes ans we all know that. We fought an incumbent and this party is not stupid. We have been beaten fair and square and there is nothing more we can do about it. Any complaints, tears, rants, whining needs to stop. Now. 2004 was a tough year and a hard battle that was fought well and we lost, that's ok. All I need to say is "The Gipper." that's all there is, we lost then and we lose now but that's ok we will carry on.

2. Get Back To The Roots of The Party
When Andrew Jackson formed this party he stood for fighting the aristocracy and supporting the common man. We stand for the common man from a pedestal in the North. We need a makeover, but not a NYC makeover. We need a southern makeover to win the heartland. Focus on faith, family, and values. Conservatives talk, we need to act. If the Party of the People even looks like the carpet-bagging few we will never be a political force again, so get a history book and take notes. If we can not get our target voters that we want to help to vote for us we will not win.

3. Re-Take the South
Our party's base is at the opposing coasts of these United States. Get rid of the aristocrats and bring in the big guns, real, authentic southerners. They want help, we want to help them, so lets bridge the gap. Bill Clinton is the standard, find someone that can take the ideals Clinton instilled in this party and drill them into our heads again. We need grassroots and we need it to be not just bigger than the Rep's, we need it to be louder and stronger.

4. Take a Vacation
After reading this letter get in a car, not the private jet, the car, and drive to the south. No, Florida does not count, we will take that state later. Drive to the real south, GA, AL, LA. That's where your base is waiting for you to take off the jewelery and put on some boots. Connecting with your voters and your target is essential because now you know that they vote their values and their values are democratic, they just need to be reminded of that.

5. Define Our Values
Its time our party finally grew up. We are the inclusive party but that doesn't mean we have to be accepting of anyone's attitude. If you want to be a crazy liberal and take votes away from our centrist base, get out. We need to be careful in whom we allow to represent us. Do you want Joe Q. Voter to see a democrat as a valueless hippie or as a strong, value-conscious individual who will be the guy you can play football with or trade quips about the markets.

Final Remarks:
After you go on vacation, get drunk, get sober, and remember what you stand for get together and decide NOW where the party needs to go, who needs to be reached, and most importantly who needs to run for office. Grassroots starts when you get back, so have fun, relax, and get ready for a 2 year campaign to take Congress back and after that a long, tiring, and if you do this correctly, a victorious effort to win the White House and let the people, as Jackson would love to say, take back their nation.
